Interview: H.K. Szcsesiak Reply

H.K. Szczesiak

I am at the IRC (Indie Romance Convention) in Lebanon, TN. Sitting here with me is Author H.K. Szcsesiak.

What genre do you write?
I have written Contemporary Romance novels so far.

Can you tell readers a little bit about yourself and do you read the same genre as you write?
My name is Heather Szczesiak, but since my last name is so unique, I go by my pen name H.K. Szczesiak. I work full time as a Tax Analyst, go to school for my MBA, as well as own and run my own photography company. Writing books has always been a dream of mine. After I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in 2014 I decided it was time to write a book. So I did. I know, I am an “over achiever” not really, but I want to accomplish so much in life.
I am slowly writing the last novel in my series, but I am at the half way point so any extra free time that I have energy I write. I have two children and a supportive husband. I love to laugh, have fun and just be me.

What inspired you to write in this particular genre?
I didn’t start writing with a genre in mind. I love romance stories any type. I knew I wanted to have a romance story that was fun, exciting, entertaining and have surprise moments. So, I just sat down and my characters came to life.

Where are you from?
Wilmington, Delaware (I know…where is that?)

Is there a character that you enjoyed writing more than any of the others?
I found something enjoyable with each character I developed.

Do you have a special formula for creating characters’ names?
I knew I didn’t want to use common names, so I researched online and found a beautiful name for my female character, Skyrah. My first novel is called Enticing Sky. I gave the male lead a common name, Wyatt. But his brother’s name is unique, Wriston. I enjoyed developing the Weston Family. All of them have names that start with a W, Wyatt, Wriston, Wynne, and Willow

Was one of your characters more challenging to write than another?
I had people ask me to write Wyatt’s story before he met Skyrah. I found it challenging and rewarding to think and write as an arrogant man who was full of himself. It all worked out in the end for his novella, Explicitly Wyatt. My third book in this series is called Enchanting Belle.

What is your motto?
I have a couple… If you believe it and dream it, you can achieve it. Make the most out of your life, you only have a short amount of time to fulfill all of your dreams. Don’t compare yourself to others, be the one who inspires others.

What’s your guilty pleasure?
Ben & Jerry’s Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice cream and a good book.

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be and why?
I don’t think I could pick just one person. There are a lot of people I would like to meet. I would really like to meet Erika Mitchell (aka. E.L. James). I would love to tell her how much I enjoyed reading her Fifty Shades book. The way the characters changed each other and brought out the best in one another was what the story was about. The dynamic of their struggles to find an even ground to make their unique relationship work was touching. It makes a reader feel that anything is possible in life and in love. I guess I would pick her brain about the depth of the characters.
