Review:

No matter how many of Purington’s books I read I am always amazed how well she writes and how the stories flow. The characters are like old friends, made so from the first book in the series. I always feel like I am in the midst of the action and caught up in all the emotions of the characters. And this last book in the whole Viking/ MacLomain group of series has everything I have come to expect and love. IT is both exciting and very sad to read the last of such epic books. My heart will miss these characters. Purington has made me believe that one can travel through time and find love, that dragons are real and can soar through the sky and that when you believe,  anything is possible. Please get these books and start your journey. IF you love fantasy, time travel and romance then these books will be favorites.               VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Description:

Two men tore Erica’s world apart in another life. One was the man she loved and the other the enemy. Now both are back, and it’s up to her to make sure an ancient blood feud doesn’t destroy everyone she cares about. That means steering clear of her dragon mate. But sometimes memories are too strong and the past too powerful. Or so it seems when she slips back in time and ends up on an unexpected journey with a man she was determined to forget.

Having confronted who he once was and what he did in a previous life, Kodran Sigdir sets out to seek answers. He needs to better understand his part in an age old war and to keep his distance from Erica. They should remain apart. Yet destiny seems to be drawing him back to her. How he once felt. All he gave up. Could things go differently this time? Or will the risk to their people be too great? Find out as Erica, Kodran and their kin go up against the enemy one last time in Pride of a Viking, the epic conclusion of Viking Ancestors’ Kin.

Excerpt:

“Are you sure Hallstein was your mate in another life?” His eyes held hers as he spun her so that they were facing each other. “Do you have memories of your time with him?” He shook his head, spoke through clenched teeth and worked hard to keep rage from taking over as he caught glimpses of what she had endured. “He did things to you, Erica. Terrible things. Things that make no sense given you were Maeva…his mate.”

She leaned back, clenched her jaw and averted her eyes. “Yes, he was my mate. I’m sure of it.”

“Then why can’t you look at me when you say that?” He tilted her chin until she had no choice but to meet his eyes. “What aren’t you telling me? What’s the missing piece?” He frowned. “Because something’s not adding up.”

“It doesn’t…you just…” She frowned as well. “You need to let this go. You need to let me go. It’s the only way this is going to work. It’s the only hope we have.”

“And where am I supposed to let you go to?” He glanced around to remind her where they were before his eyes returned to hers. “Because it’s out of my control, yes?”

“You know what I mean.”

“Do I?” He stepped a bit closer and never removed his fingers from her chin. “Because as far as I can tell you want me to believe you desire Hallstein when that’s the furthest thing from the truth. I think you’re trying to push me away so that you can somehow save everyone all on your own.”

Because he was remembering his last life, he remembered what Maeva had looked like. While they shared the same tall, lithe build with curves in all the right places, he found Erica more stunning in this life. Her eyes were varying shades of striking green that seemed to shift with her mood, and her warm skin tone was luminous. He wanted to feel her soft skin against him. Touch every last inch of her.

She went very still as their eyes held. Or so one would think if they couldn’t detect the slight tremor that went through her. Shivers that only translated to another dragon. He also noticed that she had gone from momentarily vulnerable to completely closed off despite her physical reaction.

“You’re good at that,” he murmured, shifting even closer to see if he could bring out that tremor even more. “Trying to be strong for everyone else all the time. How long have you played that part?” While he should have remained compassionate and thankful, his inner dragon was flaring. The jealousy that reared whenever he thought about her in the enemy’s arms. “How long have you been playing the part of a woman trying to convince Hallstein that you’re his? How long have you been—”

“No,” she cut him off, yanked her chin away and narrowed her eyes. “What I’ve done to help our people is not because—”

“Because you’re meant to be together?” he cut her off just as readily, as he turned things around on her. “Because you’re not, are you?” He shook his head and narrowed his eyes as well. “You’re not supposed to be with him.” His voice dropped to a whisper as the truth hovered just out of reach. Like a memory he was right on the verge of remembering. “You never were, but something happened…”

Something he needed to understand, so he thought fast. If one thing had been proven true with his kin and their mates it was that intimacy seemed to speed up their mental connections. So why not get things moving in that direction?

It seemed Erica followed his line of thought because a moment later she started to move away but he caught her. With an arm around her lower back, he yanked her against him, cupped the back of her neck and kissed her.

The moment he did, everything changed.

Review:

This is the first book I have read by this author and it will not be the last. Wow is about all I can say. I loved this book. I really had no idea what I was in for. Now I am going to have to go back and read the other books in this series. There was a time or two that I felt like I was missing something so going back and reading the previous books should answer my questions. With that said this really is a good, fun, sexy, HOT, quick read. Ms Purington is now at the top of my TBR list for Dragon Shifters. I Highly Recommend this book.

Description:

Curiosity is a dangerous thing and temptation a death wish. Especially for someone like Vivienne with her complicated past and closely guarded secrets. Yet when she has a chance to get near the enemy because of a sexy dragon shifter haunting her dreams, she doesn’t think twice. Even if it means seeking out a paranormal dating agency and tagging along incognito to scope him out as her best friend goes on a date with him.

Kage knows within minutes of meeting Vivienne that she isn’t who she pretends to be. As the right hand man of the enemy, it’s his job to figure out if she’s a threat. More so, if she’s a risk to his hidden agenda and well laid plans. Soon enough, he realizes the only danger she poses is to his hardened heart. After all, there’s no defense against the scorching desire dragons feel when they find their long lost mate.

Excerpt:

Julie dashed all hope of close contact with Viv when she sat between them. Soon after, the only waitress in the joint leaned over their table far enough to offer an ample view of her cleavage as she batted her lashes at him. “What’ll ya have, handsome?”

Kage gestured at the girls. “Ladies first.”

“Wine’s fine,” Julie said.

“Long Island Iced Tea, please,” Vivienne murmured. “Double the tequila.”

Interesting. Liquid courage?

Julie’s eyes widened on Viv before she spoke to the waitress. “Something to munch on too, please.”

“Sure.” The waitress tossed down a menu. Her eyes never left Kage. “And you, sweetheart?”

“Whatever you have on tap’s fine.” He winked just to see if Viv reacted. “The stronger, the better.”

Viv didn’t react. Not outwardly. But he got the impression the waitress had a target on her back.

“So, Julie.” Kage rested his arm on the back of Julie’s seat, yet another test to see how her assistant would react. “Tell me more about yourself.” He offered a casual smile. One designed to cultivate trust. “Running a P.I. business sounds intriguing.”

“It does…it is.” Julie nodded. “Very intriguing.”

“I’d love to hear more.”

“Yeah, sure.” Julie began pressing the pad of her thumb against the edge of the table as though trying to pinpoint how to spin her bullshit tale. “It’s…complicated.”

As complicated as not having researched her lie before telling it.

“Complicated, how?”

“Like, just…well, you know…”

He warmed his smile even more. “I’m afraid I don’t.”

Julie swallowed, her eyes glued to his as she tried to come up with something.

“It’s complicated because it’s detective work,” Viv cut in as the waitress plopped their drinks down, didn’t bother with a food order but flashed five fingers at him, winked then sauntered off. He supposed that meant she’d be available for sex out back in five.

Figure the odds.

“Well, then, tell me about detective work.” He grinned at Viv. “Is it as boring as it sounds?” A languid grin curled his lips. “Or can you make it sound exciting?”

He didn’t miss the catch of her breath.

“I suppose that depends on what you’re investigating,” she replied before she brought the straw to her lips and sucked.

He’d been around a lot of beautiful women who offered to do all sorts of creative things with their mouths, but nothing compared to the way Viv worked a straw. A bolt of lust slammed into him as her sexy-as-sin lips wrapped around that little bit of plastic and sucked up over half her drink.

There was no stopping his arousal.

Or his low growl.

He didn’t care who she was or if she might have been planted by the enemy, he wanted her. And it didn’t matter where. His eyes skirted from the bathrooms to the rear entrance to the damn linen closet. Then his eyes dropped to the table. All it would take was a little dragon magic, and he could bend her right over this. None would be the wiser.

And if she wanted to keep sucking on that little straw the whole time, who was he to judge?

Meanwhile, Julie’s eyes were wide as saucers on him, and Viv had gone perfectly still. Too still. That’s when it hit him. A scent unlike any other. Sweet. Spicy.

Female dragon.

But not just any female.

Her.

Vivienne.

Description:

Shannon usually prefers the dead to the living. But then running a funeral parlor offers a different perspective. Peace and escape. Or at least it did until the day she’s summoned by her sister to their Winter Harbor chalet in Maine. Now she knows the truth. The veil between worlds is far thinner than she thought. In fact, it’s so thin she can’t prevent her and her daughter, Emily, from slipping back in time.

Of dragon blood, Matthew Sigdir has suffered more loss than most. A wife. Sister. Now, because of a vicious enemy, possibly his son, Håkon. Infuriated, determined to find his child, he heads north over unforgiving land. What he doesn’t expect is a twenty-first century little girl and her beautiful mother, Shannon, to join him on his quest. Nor does he expect Hel to show them favor. And there’s no turning away Loki’s daughter when she offers help. Now they have to navigate not only through the elements of a wicked Scandinavian winter but Helheim itself, the underworld of the dead.

While they travel, Matthew and Shannon are forced to face their pasts. What they left behind and all that haunts them. As they do, old wounds heal. Hope grows. Love sparks. Through it all, Emily leads them ever closer to Håkon. She’s the key. But is it already too late? Will they make it in time to save Matthew’s son? Or is the enemy one step ahead of them?

Excerpt:

Matthew nodded, more and more impressed by her. He said nothing but watched her drink, enthralled yet again by her appearance. Her slender body. The fine lines of her profile.

She possessed a quiet, mesmerizing sort of elegance and he found himself imagining what her dragon might look like. Would it match the sleek blackness of her hair or would it be the addictive blue of her eyes? He imagined she would make a stunning addition to his homeland as she flew over its turbulent waters, the sea spray coating her body in shimmering moisture. Which made his eyes fall to the plumpness of her lips. The moisture left behind by the mead. Which led to the way she had tasted when he kissed her.

“Matthew?” she said softly with that tempting tone she was so good at. It was designed to be soothing and compassionate for those going through difficult times, but his dragon heard a little something else as well. A seductiveness he was fairly certain she didn’t know she emitted. A sensuality he suspected was her inner beast responding to his.

“Matthew?” she repeated, tilting her head ever-so-slightly in question. “Are you with me?”

Oh, he was with her all right.

Just in the last way he intended. A way he thought he had been able to set aside.

“Yes,” he managed, his voice a little gruff as he became overly aware of her scent still lingering on him. “I am with you, Shannon.” He stood. “But as you said before, it is time to rest. We’ll talk more tomorrow, yes?”

“Sure, if that’s what you’d prefer.” She looked at him with concern, obviously refocused on the battle and what had happened to him. “Whenever you need to talk, I’ll do my best to listen, Matthew. What you’ve experienced, what you’re going through, isn’t easy.”

Much to his dismay, sexual frustration only grew as he pulled on his tunic and boots. He didn’t want to talk but do something else entirely. And that only fed his aggravation. He should want to get to the bottom of things.

Yet his muddled mind remained focused on her scent.

Her looks.

On how she would feel beneath him.

“It’s only normal to be feeling what you are right now,” she murmured as they headed back. “It’s normal to want to find relief from all the stress you’re under.”

At first, he didn’t realize what she was talking about until he heard the switch of her breathing in the darkness and caught the sweetness of her arousal. She was catching glimpses of his thoughts and referring to his untimely lust. As they cut through a narrow corridor of rock and were forced to walk single file, his eyes dropped to her shapely backside, and he almost groaned.

Was it normal to feel so strongly about her right now? To imagine pressing her against the wall and closing his lips over hers more firmly this time? Then to fall to his knees and inhale her desire? When Shannon cleared her throat, and her heart rate increased even more, he knew for certain she heard his thoughts. And was likely even well aware of his arousal through senses alone.

Especially if they were dragon mates.

He could deny it all he wanted, but there was no mistaking the way he responded to her. The jealousy he felt not only when Kodran pulled her close but when Cameron put his arm around her. He might have a real problem. Though he assumed he was well in control of himself around female dragons, it seemed he was wrong. Because the last thing he felt when she stopped short, and he came against her back, was in control.

“What is it?” he murmured, unable to stop from lowering his head and inhaling the warmth of her skin. “Why did you stop?”

“I just had the strangest feeling,” she whispered.

A shiver of awareness rippled through her when his hands landed on either side of her slim waist. She liked the feeling of him behind her like this. And he liked it just as much.

“What kind of feeling?” he managed as he stepped even closer and kept inhaling. He was so aroused he could barely remember why he shouldn’t be. In fact, any sense of decency was just about gone.

Review:

Wow, just wow!!! I have been a fan of Sky Purington for several years. She is one of maybe 5 authors that I will buy her new books without ever reading the blurb. I just know that it will be amazing. I truly love the McLomain series no matter which century they are in. Sky makes the characters come alive and they seep into your heart and soul. Their passions become yours and their trials become real. My heart broke for Tait and Lauren as they worked through the issues they faced. As usual with Sky’s books, the story is both exciting and complex. The whole time travel thing is in a word, confusing sometimes. Sky makes it seem normal. And when she says these alpha men turn into  dragons, well, I can see it!!! So do yourself a favor and start reading Sky’s books. If you love alpha men, strong women, love, soulmates and magic then these books will make you sigh!! If I could give it 10 stars, I would. I am never happy to finish any of these books because I love them so much. But I read voraciously to get to the conclusion because they are just that good!!  VERY VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Description:

Lauren refuses to believe that her sisters traveled back in time to tenth-century Scandinavia. Cybil must be off doing one thing or another. And what of Samantha? She returned then vanished again with a bunch of uncivilized ruffians who called themselves Vikings. While thankful the crude men finally left, she’s now caught in an unusual situation. No matter how hard she tries, she cannot step foot outside her Winter Harbor chalet.

Desperate to return to the twenty-first century and figure out why he and Lauren were cursed by a Nidstang, Tait Sigdir struggles with what feels like half a soul. But that’s not all. When he finally returns to the future, he realizes how troubling things really are. Though drawn to Shannon, he can’t seem to stay away from her sister, Lauren. Hard to believe considering how difficult she is to be around. Even for a flirt like him. Yet if he’s not near her, he becomes uncharacteristically sullen.

Caught in an unraveling hex that steers them closer to the enemy, Tait and Lauren are forced on an adventure that tests them in more ways than one. Friendship emerges. Passion ignites. Even so, love does not come so easily to those who are cursed. As it turns out, they must get through a whirlwind of unfortunate events that will either bring them together or drive them further apart.

Excerpt:

“Who goes there?” came an all-too-familiar voice from the door.

Lauren sighed and called out. “It is none of your concern, Tait.”

Evidently, he thought differently because seconds later he entered, a frown on his face as his eyes swept around the lodge. “I heard a man in here.”

“It was just Einar,” she began, her words trailing off as she gestured towards him only to find he’d vanished.

Tait’s brows slammed together. “Einar? I do not know that name.”

“He was just right here,” she murmured, glancing at the rear door. “He must have slipped out the back.”

“Nobody has come or gone since your sisters left,” Tait said, troubled.

“I can assure you they did. A woman then a man. Einar.” She folded her hands in front of her and focused on the bigger problem. “You had no right to barge in here. Please leave.”

“Actually I had every right.” He continued eying the place looking for Einar. “This is my lodge, woman.”

His lodge? How unfortunate. “My name is Lauren.”

Tait shrugged as an annoying grin tugged at his lips. Apparently, he was done searching out another man. He gestured at the water.  “You will bathe then join your sisters in the main lodge, yes?”

“That was the plan, yes,” she allowed.

“Then please,” he headed for the corner table, “do not let me disturb you.”

She frowned as he filled a mug with what appeared to be ale.  “What are you doing?”

He gave the mug a pointed look. “Drinking.”

“Then please do so outside.”

“But this is my lodge.”

“Then I will need another lodge.”

“No.” Tait shook his head. “I can only be so far away from you and will sleep nowhere but here.”

Her eyes widened. “We are not sleeping in the same room.”

“We will if we have to.” He gestured at the tub again. “Right now you do not need to worry about sleeping but bathing.”

Lauren inhaled deeply and remained calm. “As much as you would probably enjoy it, I am not bathing with you here.”

“Well, I am not leaving because whether or not I saw anyone enter, I heard a man in here. So I will not leave you alone.” He considered her before he murmured something and a tall screen appeared in front of the tub. “There. Now I will not be tempted by you, woman.” He removed his fur, plunked down and narrowed his eyes at her when she narrowed her eyes on him. “Now I can focus my thoughts on Shannon.”

Lauren ignored her strong reaction to his words and smoothed her expression. Regardless, there was no controlling the flare of defiance that screamed inside her. A defiance that had her doing the last thing she intended. Something she found extremely appalling and would never normally do. Something she would judge harshly if she saw another woman do it. Especially one who was married.

She tested his resolve about Shannon as she held his eyes and took her time stripping down before she sauntered around the screen and got into the tub.

Description:

Having time travelers in your life isn’t always easy. Given that he’s said goodbye to several of them over the past few years, Sean O’Conner knows that better than most. Now his best friend Megan has returned from tenth-century Scandinavia to modern day Maine. Not only has she aged over twenty-five years, she hasn’t traveled through time alone. Her troublesome daughter Svala is with her.

Of dragon blood and proud to be Viking, Svala Sigdir has no use for the twenty-first century and makes it evident to all around her. Even so, she will protect her mother at all cost. Meanwhile, she needs a man. Sean to be exact. Despite his aversion, she is determined to make him hers.

Svala might be after him, but Sean wants nothing to do with her. At least that’s what he tells himself as the holidays arrive and he struggles to keep peace in what’s become a battleground instead of a festive Winter Harbor home. At his wit’s end, he finally calls on an old friend’s help. Or so he had hoped. Cast beneath the spell of a powerful Scottish wizard determined to protect his Viking Ancestors, Sean and Svala go on an unexpected yuletide journey. As it turns out, there’s only one way to break free from the spell. A life-altering choice that might very well cost Sean both his sanity and his heart.

Excerpt:

Svala wrapped her fur cloak around her shoulders and started to breeze past them as she eyed his crew mate. “So you’re New England’s finest, are you?”

“Naw.” Nick chuckled and nodded at Sean. “Most ladies think he is.”

“Hmm, I’m not sure about that,” she said before she started down the hallway.

“I don’t think so.” Sean grabbed her wrist and stopped her. “Nick, go make sure none of the guys head this way. Tell them I’m catching a rat or something.”

Svala winked. “Or a dragon.”

“Where you gonna hide her, Cap?” Nick kept grinning. “She don’t look like the type of woman who’ll keep hidden if she’s decided otherwise.”

Svala cocked a grin at Nick. “I think I like you.”

“I know I like you, beautiful,” he returned.

“Just make sure no one heads this way, Nick,” Sean reiterated. “And I’ll make sure Svala stays hidden.”

“I betcha will.” Nick chuckled as Sean pulled her toward the meager sleeping quarters.

“I am not staying down here.” Svala started to fight him. “I want to be on deck. I want to help you fish.”

“Hell, no.” Sean grabbed her before she could bolt in the opposite direction. “My men won’t be able to concentrate on work with you around.”

Her eyes met his. “Then you must not lead them well if they are so easily distracted.”

It felt as if the narrow hallway only grew smaller as her eyes pinned his…as he remembered with vivid clarity how she’d felt against him last night. “You know damn well the effect you have on men.”

“I did not dress in modern day clothes.” She pulled the cloak off her shoulders. “See, I am dressed like a Viking again.”

His eyes fell to the fur-trimmed, leather tunic. To her unmistakable curves. He swallowed and tore his eyes away. “What difference does it make? You’re still trouble.”

“Only when I dress like a modern-day woman, yes?” Svala cocked her head. “That is why you fought for me last night, is it not? Because you desired me in those clothes?” She frowned. “Now I am not wearing them. You will not desire me so they won’t either. There will be no trouble. You will not be ashamed of yourself.”

Sean had no idea what to make of her logic. “I’m not ashamed of myself.” But he had been when he overreacted last night. “And trust me, sweetheart, it doesn’t matter what you’re wearing. You’re gonna distract my men.”

She didn’t press closer, but her words made the hallway seem even narrower as she murmured, “Am I distracting you now, Sean? Is that why you seem so convinced?”

When they hit a small swell, he braced his hand against the wall beside her head and bit back desire. “Just do as I ask, Svala. I don’t need any trouble, okay? Not with my men.” He ground his jaw. “This is my livelihood. Please don’t screw it up.”

Shockingly enough, Svala looked as though he’d slapped her. “That’s not why I’m here, Sean…” She trailed off, clearly upset before she gathered herself. “I just wanted to see you fish.”

“Commercial fishing isn’t like normal fishing.” He shook his head. “There’s not much to see, really.”

Except when the nets came up. That feeling of excitement and expectation before they found out how big a load they’d caught.

He had no idea what to make of the look on her face. She was vulnerable in a way he’d never seen her. “I’m sorry,” he murmured, not sure what to say, still confused about why she hadn’t already traveled back in time. “Maybe I can take you out fishing another time?”

“Maybe,” she said softly, her eyes alarmingly gentle as she stepped close. “So how are you going to keep me entertained while you hide me away?”

Ah, there she was. The little Viking he knew so well. Except he wasn’t doing what he always had.

He wasn’t stepping away.

Something about having her on one of his boats, on his turf, on the high sea…was different. Somehow, though it was on his territory, they had found common ground. The sway of a ship. The pulse of the ocean beneath them.

“Sean,” she whispered, clearly sensing a crack in the wall he’d kept between them. Slowly, inch by inch, she unzipped his jacket. “If I understand things correctly, you aren’t needed for hours yet. Why don’t we fill in that time in a pleasurable way, yes?”

Review:

WOW!! Loved this from beginning to end. I could not put it down. I have read almost all of Purington’s time travel books and every single one of them is riveting. The characters are so bright and evolved and wonderful that I want to know  them personally. I find myself immersed in the story to the point that I feel as though I have gone back to the Tenth Century with Samantha and her kin. These Vikings are so virile and sexy and so confused about their 21stcentury visitors. When Sky Purington writes about a man becoming a Dragon, well, I can see it and I believe!! Every story is intricate and fits with the ones that came before seamlessly. And every time I read one and get to the end, I want more of the story. SO I wait impatiently for the next book and pre-order as soon as it is available. Would I read this book if I did not have to write a review? You bet. I buy the book anyway because I love it that much. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Description:

Recently divorced, Samantha is all about new beginnings. Her own company. A beautiful seaside house in Winter Harbor, Maine. A chance to reconnect with her sisters. But fate has something else in store. Tenth-century Scandinavia and a reality she never could have anticipated. After being whisked back in time not once but twice, she ends up in a situation she didn’t see coming. Kidnapped by a Viking.

Of dragon blood, Bjorn Sigdir knew the moment he met Samantha that she was nothing but trouble. How else could it be? She bears the mark of Gungnir, the sword given to Odin by Loki. A blade he is convinced will ruin his people and all affiliated with them. Determined to protect his kin, he concocts a plan that will keep Samantha and her unfortunate tattoo far away from trouble. Or so he thinks when he yanks her back in time.

One a captor, one a prisoner, Bjorn and Samantha embark on a journey full of unending strife. Feisty and independent, she has her own mind. Headstrong and stubborn, he does too. However, they soon have bigger problems than their mutual dislike of each other. Secrets. Ones that force them closer and forge something unexpected. Respect. Attraction. Desire. Yet they face a huge obstacle. If they give into love, all could be lost, including everyone they care about.

vengeance-of-a-viking-banner-851-x-315

Excerpt:

“All right, lead the way, kidnapper,” Samantha declared. “But I hope to heck it’s in the direction of your fortress because last I checked you had an ailing father and a best friend turned king who needs you.”

Bjorn ignored her sarcasm and frowned as he nudged her along through the forest. Näv had done him no favors with Samantha’s outfit, and well the devious seer likely knew it. Now she wore brown, fitted leather pants and a snug jerkin that did nothing to hide her figure. Naturally, the feisty redhead swayed her hips invitingly though they traveled over rougher and rougher terrain. And by Loki’s balls, he knew she did it on purpose.

“So, when are you gonna tell me why you’re avoiding your family and obligations just for little old me?” she finally said.

Samantha had a strange way of saying things. He understood her meaning more so because of her various, unending expressions than because of her actual words. As it was, the Yggdrasill allowed them to understand one another’s language but not necessarily the slang terms or twenty-first century sayings. So there was room for interpretation. Or at least there would be with any other woman besides Samantha.

His eyes remained locked on her swaying backside.

She made things pretty clear.

“Bjorn?” She stopped short, and he walked right into her.

Like the night before, they both froze. Unable to control himself, he leaned down, nuzzled close and inhaled the scent of her soft, thick hair. It smelled of sweet flowers that had warmed in the sun all day.

“Bjorn,” she whispered and turned ever-so-slowly, curling into him like a cat might her master…like a sweet little dragon might her captor. He licked his lips, eager to play her game. Curious to see how far she would take it.

“Did you know I’ve got a thing for you?” she purred as she flicked her tongue along the side of his neck and her hand trailed up his thigh. “Since the moment I saw you in that cave in the mountain.”

“Did you really?” he murmured, remembering well her appreciation for all men present. But hell if he wasn’t enjoying this. So he grabbed her backside with one hand and more than relished the gasp she released when he yanked her close. “Tell me more.”

She swallowed, unsure for a moment before she continued, her voice ridiculously sultry. “How could I not?” she murmured. “You were all big and strong and…”

When her hand closed over the hilt of the dagger at his waist, his hand closed around hers and squeezed. “And what, Samantha?” he whispered close to her ear.

Yet again their eyes met and narrowed on each other except this time their lips were inches apart. Her heartbeat quickened. So did his. He squeezed her backside while slowly guiding her hand to pull his dagger out and press it to his side. Bjorn repositioned it until one good thrust would be all it took. “Is this what you want, woman? To end me?”

Their eyes continued to hold, but she said nothing.

Yet something happened.

Something he didn’t expect.

Review:

Whether Purington is writing about Vikings or Celts her writing has the ability to make you believe what she is telling you. When a Dragon takes off in flight you can see it and not only that, you believe it is possible.  When the heroine has a vision so real you can see it you know that it is true. Her characters are complex, flawed but courageous and each must find his or her way with the occasional assist of magic, and even a Celt or Viking god. The struggles seem unsurmountable but somehow we believe that love and right will win. There are many more struggles ahead but I look forward to each book and can’t wait to see where Purington will take us. Please, check out Purington’s latest and all of them!! VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Description:

Cybil is thrilled when she and her family inherit a million dollar ocean-side house in Winter Harbor, Maine. It’s a chance to finally bring her sisters back together and right old wrongs. But problems arise. Her gift of prophecy grows stronger. A Viking from the past haunts her. And that old ash tree in the front yard? It has taken on the otherworldly qualities of Yggdrasill, a tree that connects the nine worlds in Norse mythology. Soon caught in its power, she’s whisked back in time to tenth-century Scandinavia.

Of dragon blood and set to inherit the throne, Heidrek Sigdir tries to keep Cybil away, but the gods have other plans. A fate designed to make him pay for past grievances. Yet when he finally lays eyes on her, he wants nothing else. They share a connection unlike any other. Poignant desire. Incomparable need. Tempting change. Even so, he must let her go. She should be with his brother. Still, nothing is what it seems. A new enemy is determined to destroy all and Cybil is special to him and his people in ways nobody anticipated.

Many revelations come to light when Heidrek and Cybil are forced to journey across the rugged lands of Norway to reach the home of the seers at the peak of Mt. Galdhøpiggen. Hearts will be tested and lives forever changed. Will a new Viking King rise up and keep his people safe? Or will his endless draw to a modern day woman be his ultimate ruin?

Rise of a Viking Banner 851 x 315

Excerpt:

Everyone said their goodnights as she climbed the stairs. Thankfully, there was a deck off her bedroom. One she utilized despite the storm. Elbows braced on the railing, she stared at the tree, her thoughts still on Heidrek. Some might say he haunted her, but she didn’t quite look at it like that. Not when he was trying to keep her away.

Not when he was somehow trying to protect her and her family.

She thought of those that might be his family. Lightning crisscrossed the sky, illuminating the choppy ocean. Kol was a relative. She closed her eyes and focused on the name and let it lead her to others. Kol’s brothers. Naðr Véurr…a king. Raknar. All the men who had ended up with Amber’s sisters. Her thoughts chased them until they focused on a young blond boy with a stutter and deep sadness. He grew, changed, became a man.

Heidrek.

Her eyes snapped open, and she focused on the tree again. He had become something unexpected. What he became changed everything. It would make him a king.

The king.

Someone so important that it drew attention. She blinked and shook her head as thunder crashed and the rain fell harder. No, he drew attention by his actions. He brought trouble to his people…to his family.

That’s what he had been trying to tell her all along.

Stay away.

Stay safe.

And she would. He needed to know that.

Cybil didn’t realize what she was doing until she was down the stairs off her deck and heading for the tree. The wind was strong, and the rain cold but nothing touched her. She needed to be beneath the ash.

She needed to understand.

Hands braced against the cool bark, she stared up but saw nothing beyond flashes of lightning. Yet she felt something. A slight vibration that had nothing to do with the endless thunder. Her eyes dropped to her feet. To the root.

The Yggdrasill glowed again.

“Stay away,” whispered close to her ear.

Her eyes shot to the right, and her breath caught.

There he was. Gorgeous. Masculine. Intense.

Yet ghostly.

At least a foot taller than her, he had dirty blond hair, stubble on his strong jaw and the same, piercing blue eyes she had seen in the photo. He wore a red tunic and brown fur over his broad shoulders.

Her eyes fell to the bear pendant hanging around his neck. “You use that to connect us and protect me. Does that mean keeping me and my family from traveling to you and yours?” she whispered as she shook her head and met his eyes again. “Because it won’t. It isn’t working.”

He started to talk but stopped, confusion in his eyes. “It should only connect us. Protect you. Nothing more…” His eyes roamed her face before they went to the house. “Please. You must stay away for the safety of your kin.”

Cybil was caught off guard by the flicker of desire in his eyes. More so, by her sharp response to it. She frowned and shook her head. “I’m trying.” She tried to tear her gaze from his but couldn’t. “Tell me what to do.”

“Run from here. Get away from this tree.” She sensed that he wanted to reach out but didn’t. “If you stay, I cannot stop this.”

“But you led me here,” she whispered, desperate to understand. “Didn’t you?”

His eyes roamed her face again or at least she thought they did as he started to fragment. “I…do not know.”

“Heidrek?”

She sensed his surprise at the use of his name. But then she was equally shocked when he whispered hers before vanishing altogether.

Review:

I loved this book. Now there were a few times that I had a little trouble following what time period they were in due to the time travel and bouncing back and forward in time. The storyline and the characters were well developed. I enjoyed all of the characters in this book but the two or should I say the three main characters were the best. And there for a while I was wondering where the love triangle was going to end.

Description:

Determined to protect Jackie from evil, Darach Hamilton flees MacLomain Castle without telling anyone his destination. As foretold by Celtic Goddess Brigit, that should have made the enemy pursue him. But nothing is as it seems. When he learns the dark demi-god went after Jackie instead, he races to her side only to discover something unexpected. Things have changed. There might be hope for them. Maybe he can finally be with her. After all, he’s been dreaming about her for years. The only problem? He already pushed her into another man’s arms.

Over a month has passed since Jackie traveled back in time from modern day New Hampshire to medieval Scotland. Since then, it’s been a non-stop adventure. Now she’s in ninth-century Scandinavia with Heidrek, a Viking set to inherit the throne. A man that Darach is determined she be with despite the unforgettable kiss they shared. Then there’s the newfound Claddagh ring on her finger. It is foretold that its stone can only be ignited by the love of a MacLomain. Darach is by birth, the only remaining MacLomain not taken. Yet despite the power the ring’s glow could harness, she wants nothing to do with it. Not in light of her terrible secret. One she prays will keep any man from loving her because it will mean their ultimate ruin.

Many revelations come to light when Jackie, Darach, and Heidrek travel through time to keep the future King, wee Robert the Bruce safe. Determined to spare them heartbreak, Jackie refuses both men. Yet one of them ends up invoking unavoidable passion. A timeless draw. One she tries to fight. But some things are meant to be and Fate has a plan for them all. Epic love. Ultimate war. Inescapable death. Twists nobody saw coming. An ending that will either see Scotland through to what it is today or rewrite history altogether.

Find out how everything unfolds in Passion of a Scottish Warrior, the final installment in the MacLomain Series: Later Years.

Passion of A Scottish Warrior Banner 851 x 315

Excerpt:

Jackie shook her head as she looked into Darach’s eyes. Being in his arms was the last place she needed to be. Yet the crowd pushed them closer and the man she had been dancing with vanished. She swallowed hard when his arm wrapped around her waist and twirled her away from a couple that stumbled by them laughing.

The pipes trilled.

The crowd was wild.

And she was tight against Darach.

Not a good place to be. Or was it? She swallowed again and kept her arms down because if she lifted them, what would she touch? The sides of his muscled torso…his strong forearms…his wide shoulders?

“You dinnae need to keep shaking your head no,” he murmured. “I willnae…”

When he trailed off, she realized that he had no idea what he would or would not do. Besides the arm that he wrapped around her waist, his other hand didn’t touch her at all.

His head was bent near hers, his lips so close to her ear that she could feel his hot breath down the side of her neck. Chills and heat raced over her simultaneously as she tried to sift through her feelings.

Push away. Touch his chest and push away.

But again, if she touched him…what then? Would pulling away still be an option?

The pipes seemed to trill louder, and the fire in the center of the room sparked higher as the celebrations became a boisterous background to the quiet she suddenly felt on the inside. A strange silence made up of her heartbeat and the indentation where his neck met his collarbone. She inhaled deeply and turned her face inward, chasing his scent and heat.

She barely felt the slight touch of his hand on the back of her head as she nuzzled in, desperate to get closer to…something. It almost felt like a memory. One just out of reach. Lips open, she flicked her tongue, eager to sample. Eager to capture his scent. Curious what it tasted like.

Only when he whispered, “Bloody hell, lass,” did her eyes snap open and she realized what she was doing. By that time, it was too late. He tightened his hold, dug his hand into her hair, tilted back her head and met her eyes. Their lips were inches apart when he whispered, “What are you doing to me?”

Jackie had no idea. What was she doing to him? What was he doing to her? She’d never felt anything like it. So much. Almost too much. Yet it felt like something not entirely real. As if she recalled snippets of a dream.

Their lips drifted closer, eager but tentative.

Wanting but unsure.

His eyelids drifted down. So did hers.

There…almost there.

Review:

I have loved Sky Purington’s books since I first read Viking King and have bought most of them. This one included, though I did receive a copy to review for this blog, my pre-order has been in for weeks if not months. I love her books because she writes with an imagination that is fed my her knowledge of both Viking and Scottish history. And her love of same. Her characters are so vibrant that they fly of the pages and into the reader’s heart. She can write a fight scene and a love scene with equal passion and always with a touch of magic. In Honor of a Scottish Warrior her main characters, Niall and Nicole seem destined to be forever sparing, but Sky manages to move them slowly to the love they are destined to have. I am always sorry that I cannot continue to read more even when I can’t wait to see the conclusion. For best enjoyment it would be good to read in order but even without that each book is a masterpiece and worth your time to read. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. But I can  VERY, VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND   Honor of a Scottish Warrior by Sky Purington.

Description:

Born and raised in South Boston, Nicole is tougher than most. Fearless some might say. Even in light of the fact she might be going deaf. Then her courage is put to the test when her Broun lineage introduces a whole new reality. Time travel exists. An evil enemy awaits her in medieval Scotland. And the newfound Claddagh ring on her finger? It means she has no choice but to travel back to the thirteenth century. Straight into the arms and under the protection of a man she would rather never see again.

Cousin to the Laird, Niall MacLomain wants nothing more than to keep safe the future King of Scotland. Regrettably, that also means keeping safe a headstrong lass from the future. But his honor means everything. No matter how exasperated, he swore that no harm would come to Nicole. However, protecting the feisty redhead ends up stirring his blood in more ways than one.

When Niall and Nicole come together, sparks fly. Excitement. Strife. Desire. But not love. Never that. Determined to work as a team to keep little Robert the Bruce safe, they embark on a non-stop adventure. With help from the MacLomain’s Viking ancestors, they might just stand a chance against Brae Stewart and her villainous partner. More than that, they could very well discover that they fare far better together than they ever did apart.

Excerpt:

She spun fast and low, remaining on the balls of her feet as she thrust at his side. But he moved faster and before she could shift away, he swiped her legs out from beneath her. She ignored the air being knocked out of her lungs and rolled. When he grabbed her ankle, she turned sideways and kicked but not before she slid a dagger out of her boot.

He blocked her foot then dragged her backward, belly down, so quickly she was caught off guard. In a flash, he was on her with both wrists pinned above her head. He squeezed her wrist so tightly she dropped the blade. For all she thought she was getting the hang of anticipating her opponent’s moves, she had a long way to go.

“Hell,” she mumbled, cheek against the dirt as she panted. Though disappointed in herself, she was all too aware of the feel of him. While he kept most of his weight off of her, he covered her enough that she wasn’t going anywhere.

Unless…

There was one weapon she had yet to use. Acting as though she was trying to escape, she pressed her backside up and wiggled it a bit as though struggling.

His breathing switched and his lips came close to her ear. “I know what you’re trying to do, lass.”

“And I’d say it’s working,” she murmured, not letting up with her wiggling.

The only problem? Her plan was backfiring. While she might be arousing him, a dull ache had blossomed between her thighs. Damn it. She seriously didn’t want to be turned on by this guy. Yet her heart was hammering and the ache was increasing.

“Ye best be careful about this method when a man has ye pinned.” His brogue had thickened right along with something else. “Now how do ye intend to get out of this without being taken against yer will?”

His hot breath fanned down her neck and a shiver rippled through her. “You might be a lot of things, Brute, but a rapist isn’t one of them.”

“It doesnae matter.” He ground against her and she almost groaned. “What matters is the next lad that catches ye in this position. So what is yer next move, Nicole?”

“So no more of the nickname, Ungrateful?”

“Not right now.” He pressed down again and the ache became throbs. “Not when I’m feeling verra grateful with the way yer moving yer arse.”

“I can tell,” she murmured, trying to buy time while she came up with a plan. About the only thing her body wanted to do was not fight but welcome him. Not good. “Stop that.”

“Stop what?” he said innocently, his voice a deep rumble against her back as he nibbled at the tender area beneath her ear.

“You’re not fighting fair,” she accused, trying to think clearly.

“Battling is never about being fair,” he said softly and she swore the nibbles turned to soft kisses. “’Tis about winning, dying.” His teeth gently clenched her earlobe before he pressed his hips down again and whispered, “Or surrendering.”

“There’ll be no surrendering to you,” she said. Or at least tried. Nothing really came out but a few gasps and a low, unstoppable moan.

“Show me how ye intend to get away.” His lips were close to hers. Too close. “Or are ye defeated already?”

Defeated? Heck no. She didn’t speak that language. So she cleared her mind and acted fast.

She turned her head as far as she could manage and brushed her lips against his. As she had hoped, he jolted and she flipped. Don’t think, just do, she preached to herself. Grabbing the back of his head with one hand she pulled his lips down to hers.

Don’t think, just do.

But it was damn difficult as she became far too aware of how perfectly their mouths fit together. How warm, soft yet hard and demanding his kiss suddenly turned.

He kissed differently than other guys. Skilled in a whole new way. He varied the pressure of his lips. Gentle and seeking yet confident and persistent.

Don’t think, just do.

All she could think about were his lips and how tempting it would be to open her mouth and let him in. What was it she was supposed to do again?

Win. You’re supposed to win.

Right. Now or never, Nicole. So she grabbed a dagger from the pouch attached to his back and held it to the side of his neck.

Niall stilled. His lusty eyes met hers.

“Gotcha,” she whispered, struggling for breath.

“Aye, lass. You got me,” he whispered back before he wrapped his hand into her hair and closed his lips over hers again.

YULE’S FALLEN ANGEL by Sky Purington

5 stars

This is a sweet and sexy story about redemption during the Christmas season. The writing is wonderful. Anyone who has read any of Sky’s Highland or Viking books will get a kick out of finding this story about Cullen and Treasa. They are well developed characters who feel like old friends. Their story of love and loss is heart breaking and it was a joy to see them get a second chance at love. As in all Sky’s books, the story is as  good as the emotional journey taken by the reader along with the characters. Excellent read!! MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Never having read this author before I was not sure what to expect but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has made me want to read more of this series. It is fast paced without being rushed. The two main characters were well done and I felt like I knew what was going on with them. The storyline was interesting and kept me turning pages to find the resolution. Just enough sexy lovemaking to keep it spicy. Interesting premise with all of paranormals living together and for the most part getting along (at least in America). Definitely, give this one a read. It is fun and spicy. RECOMMENDED

NETHER BLUE    BY Claudy Conn

4stars

This was an interesting story and the characters were natural and felt like down to earth even though they were magical. The world building was done well. It held my interest but left a few questions in the end.  I would Recommend it to anyone who wants to try a new author who knows how to tell a story.

WINTER GUARDIANS by Dawn Montgomery

4 stars

It is always interesting to find a new world with paranormal creatures and to see how each new author builds the world. This story seems to be the prequel to further books. The characters, Daniel and Ashley have met once before when Ashley was a teen. Now she is all grown up and a surgeon. And Daniel is back in her life. But the evil that is coming for Ashley cannot be stopped. Daniel is determined to keep her safe but she is not so sure she believes all he is telling her. Angels, fallen angels, seraphim, etc. surely he is kidding?? Both characters are well done and I felt like I wanted to know more about them. Worth checking out if you like a sweet love story.
